6-Week Asian Relational Embodiment Group

There is a growing need to cultivate new and forgotten ways of healing in order to sustain true wellness and meaningful engagement in the world.

Through the lens of relational trauma and cultural-awareness, this 6-week in-person group weaves together elements of group therapy, somatics and movement exploration, touch, and relational exercises to explore and transform maladaptive relationship patterns and dynamics.

Some themes we will explore include: belonging and othering, authenticity, who/what we’re drawn to and why, intimacy and safety, group dynamics, “taking up space”, cross-cultural relationships, and balancing connection to self with connection to others.

FAQs

  • This offering is informed by my work as a psychotherapist and my many years of embodiment practice in the form of dance, movement, and meditation. I continue to be influenced by the following practices: martial arts, Contact Improvisation, the Hakomi Method, T-Groups, somatic psychology, yoga, intuitive bodywork, Daoism and animist traditions, spiritual practice, socially engaged mindfulness, liberatory praxis, and trauma-informed psychotherapy.

  • Throughout our 6 weeks together, we will enter a collective dance that is fueled by creative potential, attunement, responsiveness, and care.

Our sessions will take place in-person indoors (masking optional) in a dance studio or a cozy office space in Oakland or Berkeley.

I will begin each session by introducing the guiding Element (wood, fire, earth, metal, water) and facilitating a group check-in. We will bring collective awareness to emergent topics from individuals in the group or that is a shared theme in the collective.

I will then guide us back into our bodies and enter the embodied exploration portion of the session, where we will draw from various tools and practices including

    • spatial exploration

    • coregulation through consensual touch

    • guided bodywork

    • facilitated movement/dance

    • sounding/verbalization

    • somatic exercises

    • guided meditation

    • experiments, games, and play, etc.

The flow of our session will be adapted to the group’s needs, capacities, and curiosities that day.

I might bring in questions, literature, or imagery to stimulate discussion, guide a meditative or embodiment practice, facilitate experimental prompts that use our bodies in space to explore relational dynamics, guide exercises of witnessing and being witnessed in our authenticity, or explore the physical boundaries of our bodies.

We will then debrief our somatic explorations by discussing relational dynamics, patterns, and edges. We will have the opportunity to address relationship challenges or dynamics in the group with the intention of truth-telling for the sake of collective learning and liberation. We will learn to co-create a container—and ultimately, a world—that we want to exist in together.

  • This group is open to anyone in the Asian diaspora, including mixed race folks and adoptees.

While no experience is necessary, since this group involves both solo body exploration and touch (always optional), which can be sensitive for individuals with any kind of trauma history, participants are encouraged to have cultivated some level of body awareness practice (ex. somatic therapy, martial arts, yoga, dance, massage, etc.)

Those who are interested in exploring relational dynamics, non-verbal healing approaches, movement, consensual therapeutic touch, and embodiment are invited to join.

  • $80 for each two-hour group session

$480 total for the 6-week group

Limited sliding scale spots are available for queer/trans folx with financial need. Email your request to teresatrinhcounseling@gmail.com .

Due to the intimate nature of the group and the short duration of our time together, participants are requested to commit to all six group sessions. If you are interested in joining but unable to make one session date, please note this in your application.
